A brief history of Mansfield

Mansfield is a market town in Nottinghamshire, East Midlands. The town sits 12 miles north of Nottingham in the Maun Valley and has an estimated population of around 99,600 inhabitants. Chesterfield, Worksop and Newark-on-Trent lie on its border.

Notable names to be born in the town include Olympic gold-medal-winning swimmer Rebecca Adlington and golfer Greg Owen. Late singer Alvin Stardust lived in Mansfield as a child.

Each summer Mansfield hosts an event called Summer in the Streets, a festival consisting of various events including fairground rides, circus workshops and children's entertainment.  The festival often culminates with a music festival in the town's Tichfield Park.
